Nicaragua is the largest republic of Central America. The capital and largest city is Managua. Nicaragua has highlands; several mountain ranges; and a great basin, or depression, containing two lakes, Lake Nicaragua, the largest in Central America, and Lake Managua. The two are connected by the Tipitapa River. The coastal regions of Nicaragua have a tropical climate and the rainy season is from May to October.
